Reckless Rollers

Whether you’re looking to get your start, don’t have the bandwidth for derby full-time, or just want a good on-skate workout, Reckless Rollers might be the place for you. Reckless is B.A.D.’s recreational skating group, which practices on weekends. Sessions are an hour and a half and happen on Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening.

Reckless is open to female quad skaters over the age of 18; to join, you must be able to sustain balance and prove you can learn skating skills in a safe and proper manner.

Practices consist of basic skating and derby skills. In the group, we emphasize learning correct techniques (and getting a good workout). Fun is the focus: The practices are run somewhat casually, and skaters are not required to maintain attendance. Everyone is allowed to skate at their own comfort level, so if you need to drop out of an exercise or stop for a bit, that is OK. On average, the group has a mixed skill level ranging from beginners to advanced skaters.

Additionally, if you’re interested in eventually skating with the B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls, Reckless is a great way to get trained and learn the basics. We offer a quarterly opportunity for our Reckless ladies at the appropriate level to be evaluated as potential transfers into the league; in addition, it’s great preparatory work for our yearly tryouts.

Interested skaters can register on the first Saturday of every month. To skate with Reckless, you must have a full set of protective gear: This includes quad skates, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, a helmet, and a mouth guard.
