B.A.D. Girls SF Bout Debut July 12

Oakland Battles SF in Roller Derby Classic at Fort Mason

On Saturday, July 12, the B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls (B.A.D.) – the first local all-women flat-track roller derby league – will host their first bout ever in San Francisco at Fort Mason Center.

Skaters sought a new bouting venue after the limited capacity at B.A.D.’s Oakland practice location prevented the non-profit league from recuperating bout event expenses.

Fort Mason’s Herbst Pavilion is a 30,000 square foot column-free space that will allow up to 1,000 derby-crazed fans to converge for this classic Bay Area rivalry: Oakland Outlaws vs. San Francisco ShEvil Dead.

Since this marks the first time in B.A.D.’s four-year history that San Francisco will have the opportunity to bout on their turf, the ShEvil Dead are prepared to fight tooth and nail to please their hometown fans and resurrect their current third in league position.

But this won’t happen if the Outlaws have anything to say about it. Oakland is currently undefeated and doesn’t want to give up a victory to their undead rivals. The Outlaws haven’t met San Francisco since April, but they’ve dusted off their skates to prepare for the battle.

About the Event: Oakland Outlaws vs. San Francisco ShEvil Dead on Saturday, June 12, at Herbst Pavilion, Fort Mason Center, San Francisco. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; the beatdown starts at 8:00 p.m. Event is 21+ with ID for entry and to purchase alcohol. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door. This event is expected to sell out, so buy your tickets today at HYPERLINK "http://www.bayareaderbygirls.com" www.bayareaderbygirls.com.

Herbst Pavilion is located in the historic Fort Mason Center at the intersection of Marina Boulevard and Buchanan Street (www.fortmason.org). Free street parking is available but limited. The Fort Mason Center parking lot will cost attendees $8 for the evening. Carpooling and use of public transit is encouraged. The venue is accessible by the following MUNI lines: 22 Fillmore, 47 Van Ness, 49 Van Ness/Mission, 30 Stockton, 82x Presidio, and the 28 19th Avenue.

Upcoming bouts include: August 9 (San Francisco vs. Richmond - home); Oakland vs. Santa Cruz Roller Girls (at Santa Cruz); B.A.D. Girls Championship Bout (TBD - home).

About Roller Derby: Roller derby is one of the fastest-growing extreme sports in the U.S. and is characterized by spectacular full-body blocks, multi-body pile-ups, and thrilling speed skating. A game is called a “bout,” and it is comprised of two 30-minute periods. During each period, ten women (five from each team) arm themselves with quad skates, countless months of training, and BAD attitudes to line up for consecutive two-minute "jams,” during which time skaters race and block each other to victory—or defeat.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the fightin’ starts at 9:00 p.m. www.bayareaderbygirls.com or www.cellspace.org CELLspace is located at 2050 Bryant Street.

June 14th Bout Cancelled. :(

June 14th CancelledIt is with heavy hearts that the Bay Area Derby Girls announce the cancellation of the June 14 bout between the (undefeated this season) Oakland Outlaws and the Richmond Wrecking Belles. Unfortunately, our venue, Dry Ice, is not up to code to accommodate all our wonderful fans. The leniency afforded us by the authorities the past two months has come to an end until required building improvements are complete. We are working with Dry Ice management to bring the building up to code. At this time we expect to proceed with our July bout as scheduled.
